A Court of Thorns and Roses | Sarah J. Maas

This book is my first book by Sarah J. Mass. I chose this book to read to see why it is so popular. It took me more than a week to begin reading this book because most hype books disappoint me mostly. This book is also featured as Lincoln Award Nominee (2017) and Goodreads Choice Award Nominee for Young Adult Fantasy & Science Fiction (2015) .To find out what I think about this book, see my review below.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

Rating - 4 / 5  ★★★★

The Book Blurb

Feyre's survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill – the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price ...

Dragged to a magical kingdom for the murder of a faerie, Feyre discovers that her captor, his face obscured by a jewelled mask, is hiding far more than his piercing green eyes would suggest. Feyre's presence at the court is closely guarded, and as she begins to learn why, her feelings for him turn from hostility to passion and the faerie lands become an even more dangerous place. Feyre must fight to break an ancient curse, or she will lose him forever.

My Review

The first page is enough to lure me into Freya's and the fairy's magical world, and I have no idea where I will end up. Sarah J. Mass's writing style, suspense-building, action, romance, and clever banter captivated me in my first novel by her.

Freya, a 19-year-old girl, kills a wolf in the hopes of surviving the winter longer this time. When a monstrous legendary creature comes knocking on her door, accusing her of murder and demanding retribution. She is dragged into the world of fairies and forced to live as his prisoner for the rest of her life in order to save her family. Freya is captured in the palace but never treated like a slave. It is no longer difficult for her to restart her life again. But when her feelings begin to turn from hating to heat, there will be nothing that can separate her from Tamlin. When fate intervenes, though, games shift, and secrets start to unravel. Freya understands she is the only one who can free Tamlin from his mysterious curse and save his realm and her family from a dangerous evil.

With each passing phase, the book takes the reader on an adventure. The cover, title, and blurb all provide a clear picture of the narrative. I didn't want to label A Court of Thorns and Roses as merely a retelling of Beauty and the Beast because it has a more original and creative storyline.

Freya is cold, bold, strong, and she is the sole provider for her family, yet she is still a reckless girl. 'A Court of Thorns and Roses' by Sarah J. Mass keeps my attention by framing each incident with two separate views, some recounted in this book, and others will most likely in the next book that makes it suspenseful.

It's impossible to please me when I read the retelling of my favorite narrative, 'Beauty and the Beast.' Some events have a Beauty and the Beast vibe to them. Freya is nothing like Beauty, and Tamlin lacks the Beast's might. The book's finale does not have the same impact on me as the ending of Beauty and the Beast, which is vastly different.

The initial section of the novel features Freya and Tamlin's sparkling passionate chemistry and gradually fades into the second section, which solely involves action or adventure. The first half was dramatic and left an impression on me, but the second half lost its grip on me, yet the mystery kept me going. This book is a comprehensive, powerful female-oriented book from start to finish.

In the final, there is powerful suspense, a decent romance, and a weak fantasy lead. The book's conclusion lacks the charm that would tempt me to select the following books in the sequence. Nonetheless, the novel divines the holding storyline with great characters.
