Author : Emily Henry

The Book Blurb

Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.

Poppy and Alex. Alex and Poppy. They have nothing in common. She’s a wild child; he wears khakis. She has insatiable wanderlust; he prefers to stay home with a book. And somehow, ever since a fateful car share home from college many years ago, they are the very best of friends. For most of the year they live far apart—she’s in New York City, and he’s in their small hometown—but every summer, for a decade, they have taken one glorious week of vacation together.

Until two years ago, when they ruined everything. They haven’t spoken since.

Poppy has everything she should want, but she’s stuck in a rut. When someone asks when she was last truly happy, she knows, without a doubt, it was on that ill-fated, final trip with Alex. And so, she decides to convince her best friend to take one more vacation together—lay everything on the table, make it all right. Miraculously, he agrees.

Now she has a week to fix everything. If only she can get around the one big truth that has always stood quietly in the middle of their seemingly perfect relationship. What could possibly go wrong?

My Review

Poppy and Alex speak to me! This book speaks to me! Alex and Poppy took me on the wonderful and awestruck sweet & salty ten summer beach vacations.

Poppy and Alex have been best friends since college, despite having entirely opposite personalities. Poppy hates living in Linfield, and Alex loves the place dearly and even dreams of growing old there. Their dreams keep them apart; summer vacations are the only way to catch up and meet in person for them. But something happened on their previous trip two years ago that caused a rift in their friendship. Since then, they haven't talked to each other. Poppy now wants to make one more vacation to mend things by persuading Alex to join her on vacation. Poppy has one more chance to mend their friendship, or it may be their last trip together.

People We Meet on Vacation give me a refreshing and lasting story on the friend-to-lover trope. The author brilliantly blends Alex and Poppy's maturity and immaturity, making the journey feel realistic. Poppy is a wild, risk-taking, passionate dreamer and traveler, whereas Alex is calm, collected, bookish, and a happy family man's dreamer. Both of them are adorable, and their banter is funny, even making you cry at times. I enjoy books that tell the story in both the present and the past and never let you get bored with any phase. This book just did that.

There are the things that I didn’t like, wanting others to have more space, but the present details overshadow them. This book’s pace is slow. Too slower for me, and that's clear the many mixed reviews for this book. Slow romance is bound to have too much space to make you cry, but there are only a few moments that occur.

Yet, it never loses its grip on you and manages to make you curious to go on with the book. This book was far too enjoyable for me. Reading this book makes me want to pack my bags and go to a beachy and wild place on vacation. The heartfelt romance and funny scenes with the perfect plot setting and beach vacation make this a special place for me.
