My Review

Hard to Forget by Varsha Dixit is a captive story filled with drama, secrets, betrayal, love, trust, and the harsh realities of society. The cover gives me the vibe of a classic romance, but the story is set in the modern age and perfectly blends with the elegance of classical times.

Sonali Chowdhury gets a job as a chaperone for an elderly lady in order to begin a new life. She is trying hard to protect her family and her true identity as a family of scammers, so lying is the best and only choice she has to stay for as long as she needs for this job. Dev Shaurya, the elder lady's grandson and a journalist, considers her behavior to be an act of perfection. But the secrets are shallow by the feelings they both have. When Dev discovers the truth about Sonali, it appears to be the perfect story for his new channel, but deeper inquiry makes him realize that her family is suffering from the sins they were unaware of. And there are more secrets that Dev and Sonali weren't even prepared to hear. Sonali loves Dev and is well aware that her identity can ruin Dev's life forever. After knowing her past, Dev even wants to see her face is another mystery to her.

I enjoy the story's setting and the progress of Sonali's characters. Sonali is sweet and gentle but has a strong personality. Sonali's bond with her sisters is admirable. The book perfectly depicts the reality of social bias and the effect a person's name has on them. The author effectively highlighted the difficulties the privileged people face trying to blend in and adjust to their sudden poverty. Dev is the one that is hard to find at this time but is such a charmer. Varsha Dixit created a lovely, dreamy love and romance with a realistic touch. The ending is my favorite: it's non-cliché and gives room for the reader's imagination.

The climax of this novel feels hurried, and the supporting characters aren't as powerful as I had hoped. There are many twists that are required to devour more.

Overall, I'm new to this author, but the book is wonderfully written, and the story is a sweet and short delight. Dev and Sonali have powerful chemistry and a solid grip on emotions. A fantastic read for a few hours or a day, with an engaging narrative.
